Goblin Market was built by weirdos, for weirdos. Based in the Midwest, a famously weird region of the U.S., Goblin Market spotlights artists, subcultures, and pockets of culture operating outside a traditional gallery or museum setting. Learn more about the pillars of our editorial below.
At Goblin Market, stories are our secret power. Our features are crafted with intimate, narrative-based writing rooted in genuine curiosity, research, and traditional journalism. While we don’t publish criticism or reviews, our writing reveals the intricacies behind visual art and culture with an accessible, insightful style.
Our content, while global in scope, covers the past, present, and future of the Midwestern arts landscape, particularly where the region intersects with the Rust Belt. We champion artists who live and work between New York and Chicago, the two Stateside cultural hubs where coverage, funding, and curiosity coalesce.
We have a strong preference for art books, illustrations, zines, print, DIY publication projects, book covers, and artwork inspired by literature. We’re especially interested in stories where these formats intersect with the Midwest or Rust Belt regions.
We’re more than copy-paste appreciation. In most cases, our editorial provides a well-primed canvas for artists to shine their brightest (and weirdest). Other times our editorial looks beyond singular artists and artworks for buried cultural threads that tie into larger narratives.
